The Cultural Revolution Tarot is based on Mao era / CCP propaganda posters from the late 60’s -early 70s.

Christine Aguiar

Christine Christine dreamed up the idea of combining Mao’s Cultural Revolution with the 78 pictorial cards that is the Tarot, creating what is now a much talked about, much anticipated work of art which has been steadily progressing with every new illustration.

Always thinking of new ways to visualize the cards, we’ve come a long way from our very first Cultural Revolution image “The Fool” in November 2013. It has been a pleasure working alongside Christine and i look forward to each new concept she brings to me.

100_5957I illustrate the Cultural Revolution Tarot based on the ideas that Christine conjures up in that amazing mind of hers. Everything from space kids, happy pandas and chariot Koi fish, to themes of starvation and destruction, I’ve tried to capture the spirit of the 60’s, 70’s era propaganda art in Mao’s China.
