Nearing the Deck’s Completion

If you’ve seen our last video, you’ll see that we’ve almost completed The Cultural Revolution Tarot. With the exception of a week or two here and there taken up with other art related work, we’ve been working on the Cultural Revolution Tarot everyday from about mid November 2013 until now (I have a new World card to complete, the Devil and Temperance card to edit slightly, and the back of the cards to design). For let’s say about a year and a half our Tarot has been in the works and for the past 8 months i’ve almost exclusively worked on this Tarot night and day, starting early and working beyond midnight many times. A lot of work goes into the making of a Tarot.

The Cultural Revolution Tarot originally began as a labour of love, something i could illustrate for my partner Christine (aka Sayoko Nakanisi) whom, along with Tarot, has held an interest in the Cultural Revolution has been with her ever since she was a teenager. From there it has expanded into a Tarot that has over 1,500 people on our Facebook alone with both tarotists and communists, revolutionaries and art lovers from all works of life following what we do.

While i’ve coloured the original cards, Christine decided that she’d like to amp up the colours to a sort of “technicolour” look, reflecting the bright vibrant propaganda illustrations from the Mao era. So we’ve decided to release the original and bright version both at the same time, which we hope will appeal to a broader range of people.

In this blog i’ve occassionally posted from time to time when i get the time but the main updates are on our facebook page.
