The World -A Taste of Asia

Our most recent completed card has been The World card, and for me it is a bit of a special card because it involved illustrating maps. Christine came up with the idea of literally having a map of the Asian world embedded into the picture as a background. While I’ve drawn town maps, and maps of the Irish coast over the past few years for other work, it made a nice change to cartoonise East Asia (In as much as could be conveyed as a secondary theme in a small tarot card, though all the work is illustrated roughly around 11.5 by 16 Inches).

We’ve included the Yellow Sea, South China Sea, East China Sea, Hong Kong, Changsha, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Qingdao, Pu-yang, Seoul and Nagasaki, with the latter three included for geographical purposes. At the bottom lies a few islands of the Philippines which remain¬†unnamed.

Upon final editing stages it’s possible we might include a name there, but for now the Illustration is complete. I particularly like the image’s produce aspect, with the maize, bok choi, radishes, carrots, cauliflower and so on representing the communal work taking place in the background behind the woman.

The Cultural Revolution Tarot can be found on our site for 40 U.S dollars (at the time of writing). For the brits, this relates to little over 26 pounds. Go buy our controversial kick ass work of art and you won’t be dissappointed
